Dr. J.R. Kannan Bapu, before assuming charge as Dean, Sethu Bhaskara Agricultural College and Research Foundation served as Professor of Plant Breeding and Genetics and heading the Department of Pulses, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Coimbatore. He has 30 years of Teaching and Research experience in the same University. He has obtained his Master’s and Doctorate from TNAU. He was bestowed with Gold medals for his outstanding performance in Postgraduate and Doctoral studies. His novel ideas in Doctoral studies have adjudged him with best thesis award during 1995. He has undergone International Course on Applied Plant Breeding at Wageningen University, The Netherlands during 1994. He has completed Post Doctoral research in Biotechnology at Virginia Tech, Blacksburg, USA during 1998 -2000 under the Rockefeller Foundation Programme. He is awarded with TNAU Best Teacher award and MASU best PG Teacher award for his meticulous involvement in Teaching and guidance. He involved in pulses breeding researches for more than 10 years. He has contributed for development of high yielding varieties in pulses and vegetables. He has guided 12 PG students and 10 Ph.D scholars. His contributions are presented and well appreciated by Laureates in many International and National scientific forums. He has visited countries viz. USA, Netherlands, Thailand and China for attending seminars and presentation of research papers. He has 75 research papers published in peer reviewed International and National journals to his credit. He has obtained research grants from various agencies like the Rockefeller Foundation, USA and DBT, New Delhi etc.
